Backman/Louisville Slugger wins the 2016 USSSA Nationwide Conference Championship!

Note: my flight was booked for noon on Sunday so as I told the teams I would not be there for the final game.

Backmans Ryan Stovall hits against Resmondo in the winner's finals

1st Place – Backman/Louisville Slugger/S&S

Backman/Louisville Slugger went undefeated 4-0 and knocked off #2 Resmondo Specialty Tank Worth 22-17 in the winner's bracket finals on Saturday and #4 Smash It Sports/ASP/HAuto/MrWiggles/Easton 27-22 in the CBS Sports Network televised championship game Sunday to start the Major level slowpitch post season.  Backman will have the #1 seed for the USSSA Major World Series September 21-24 in Kissimmee, Florida at the ESPN Wide World of Sports stadium.  They add the Conference tournament championship to their double wins at the Hall of Fame Dual Classic, their Dudley tournament win, and their Cincinnati Major win as well as the regular season Conference points championship.  TG/Red's Astros/Headlines/K&G/Worth was 4th.

Also this past weekend was the Conference Qualifier tournament with 14 teams played at the Fortune Road Athletic Complex where the highest non-qualified team got the berth to the Major.  That tournament was won by Precision an Illinios 'AA' team eventhough they were missing half of their starters.  They beat Line Drive Sportz by forfeit in the finals and Team Adiktiv/Energy System/Worth from Florida finished 3rd and won the berth to the Major with their spectacular play Friday night winning 3 straight games.

The Nationwide Conference USSSA weekend also included the traditional Awards banquet where Backman left fielder Jeremy Yates and Resmondo pitcher Andy Purcell won league co-MVP, Scene infielder Jason Branch won Offensive MVP, Resmondo 2nd baseman Greg Connell won the Triple Crown and Home Run Award, and Resmondo middle infielder Luis Reyna won the Defensive MVP for the 2nd time.  Also Scene manager Jason Kendrick won the "Frank Webb Manager of the year", and Lee Eggars won the "Duane Posavetz Umpire of the Year"!

I will have a complete report, archived games, an article on the Awards Banquet, video clips and more coming soon!
