Interview conducted on 10/10/2016

Who are you playing with in 2017?
2017 Free Agent – anthonyamedei@gmail.com

Played with ASP Chicago in 2016

What positions do you play and what is your best position?
I play outfield. Best position is Center but can go to either corner.

Who is the best softball player you have ever seen play?
I'm still young in the game so I haven't had the opportunity to see a lot of guys play. I think right now the best player out there is Kyle Pearson, the guy smashes.

Why do you like the game of softball?
It's fun, simple as that. The higher up you get, the more competitive the games are and everyone out there can play.

What is your nickname in softball and how did you get it?
Dillo. I have no idea how they got the nickname, but this year guys started calling me that and I don't think I ever heard my real name after that.

What is your height and weight?
5'11 175lbs

Where do you call home?
Aurora, Illinois

What's your favorite way to spend an off weekend?
I have to be doing something. Whether it's boating, fishing, cash tournament with buddies, really anything to get me out of the house.

What do you do for a living?
I work for a lacrosse club based out of Naperville.

Did you play sports in High School / College / Pro?
I played Baseball and Soccer in high school and college. I had short stints Indy Ball for the Joliet Slammers and Rockford Aviators.

How did you get your start in softball and how did you get to the upper level?
I started playing as a way for my college baseball buddies to still hang out. We started in 1-league night and then played a tournament. A few months later my buddy Kevin Fitzgerald called and asked if I wanted to play on his tournament team. I immediately said yes and that was that.

What was the most surprising difference between Conference play and non-Conference play when you made the jump?
I haven't made the jump yet, but we I have had the opportunity to play in a few Major tournaments. I think the main difference comes on the defensive side of the game.

In your career was there a single person (player/manager/coach) who had the most significant impact on your approach to the game? Why?
Dave Shaff. He's a guy this year who really helped my swing and approach.

What advice can you give a young player trying to break into the upper level?
Put in the work off the field, people notice.

What type of batting grip do you use and what ounce bat?
Traditional, 27oz end load.

What do you do in the offseason to prepare for the next softball season?
Swing, workout and play in tournaments. We have a pretty good group of guys in the Chicago area, and we will find cash tournaments almost every weekend.

What is your favorite sports team and your favorite sport other than softball?
Chicago Blackhawks. Hockey is definitely my favorite sport.

What is your favorite non-World tournament and why?
Small Ball in Lafayette IN. Unlimited homerun, out of season tournament, and its a blast.

What is the best softball field/complex you have played at and why?
Disney. The fields are great.

  2. Jrock says:

Sky is the limit for this kid. Very good player and only going to get better. Definitely will help someone out when given the chance at the next level. A lefty that kills it and very fast. Also can play infield. Works hard on and off the field. Good luck Dillo! Keep working hard and it’ll pay off.
