Who are you playing with in 2014?
undecided

What positions do you play and what is your best position?
I pitch and play infield.  I have always been a middle infielder that had to pitch to get a shot at playing in the conference.  once i got there i ended up playing a lot of infield even though i was brought along to pitch

Who is the best softball player you have ever seen play?
I don't think I ever got bryson baker out and he plays d. hits for power and average. i'd put Rulli in that conversation too.  he never seems to make an out and really picks it.  Throw Wegs in for his ability to play any position and still be one of the toughest outs in the game.

Why do you like the game of softball?
I attended my first game at 3 days old.  My dad loved the game and I chased him everywhere as a bat boy until I was 17 and I started playing on my own.  I love the game for the relationships I've made and the chance to meet people from all over.  I also love that it gives me the outlet for my competitiveness.  I'm sick of a participation ribbon society that hates when somebody tries to be the best.

Who is the best up and coming player in softball and why?
Stuart Snell impressed me this year.  He never seemed to miss a pitch and hit it all over the park.. homers or base hits, whatever was needed.

What is your nickname in softball and how did you get it?
Huzzdog.  i don't know who started that but I played a few years with guys who still didn't know my first name was Sean.

What is your height and weight?
6'2"  220 lbs

Where do you call home?
Portland, Maine.  Which makes it very difficult to play any sort of competitive softball.

What's your favorite way to spend an off weekend?
I love playing with my son Dominic.  He's 6 and loves every sport, so when I am home I coach his football, basketball, and baseball teams.  My wife and I love to make the 2.5 hour north drive to see my family where no cell phone reception is a gift as well.

What do you do for a living?
I am a partner in a financial planning practice.

Did you play sports in High School / College / Pro?
I played baseball, basketball and golf in high school.  We didn't have a football team, too small.  I played baseball and basketball in college my freshman year then quit hoops when i realized i'd never play and just stuck with baseball.

How did you get your start in softball and how did you get to the upper level?
I started playing on my dads league team at 17.. he had to sign a waiver.  Believe it or not I played for my dad's Elks team in the state tournament and a guy who played for National Gold who won an ISA B world saw me play.  Asked me to play fall league with him, so I drove the 1.5 hours one way each time to play just to get a shot.  From that I got asked to play on a out of state B team the following year. Eventually John Hickey from Magic asked me to join the team as a pitcher and I played well enough to stay.

What was the most surprising difference between Conference play and non-Conference play when you made the jump?
the defense.  Your local league night base hit get's taken away all the time.  You have to have a plan and execute it perfectly or somebody will make a play.

Is there a player that you would compare your game to?
not really but i want to say Dal Beggs impressed the hell out of me at the Smoky this year.  We were beating the Scene by a bit.. he was going all out still.  Head first dive in to first base, diving plays in the field.  I hope i can go that hard when i'm his age.

What would you say is your career highlight to this point? Maybe one play or game that sticks out to you in particular?
2 things… The first time i took the mound in Disney, my son was watching the game on live stream at his preschool and his teacher sent me a text with the game on and him glued to the monitor.  2. winning the Ct. major and getting defensive MVP after being down 41-20 in the 6th inning and coming back to beat Jolt ( the Scene ) .

In your career was there a single person (player/manager/coach) who had the most significant impact on your approach to the game? Why?
My dad first.. he introduced me and taught me to love it.  I will take this opportunity though to thank John Hickey.  If there is a better man in softball i dare you to point him out.  What he has given guys from our area through sacrifice and a crazy amount of effort is unparallelled.    He gave more to softball and me than most will do for their own family, and helped me to be a better person.  Thanks big fella.

Stump, Dave Sinclair, and all the guys who help sponsor and run teams.. thanks.  Without  you guys there would be no conference.

What advice can you give a young player trying to break into the upper level?
You might have to leave some friends behind that don't have the same talent, desire, or goal as you.  Be a good teammate, it's more important than you think.

What type of batting grip do you use and what ounce bat?
I like a 27 or 28 and I drop my bottom two fingers off and overlap the top.

What do you do in the offseason to prepare for the next softball season?
i play basketball.. it's a long cold winter here in Maine.  I also workout and then start hitting in the cages in January.

What is your favorite sports team and your favorite sport other than softball?
I gotta root for the Red Sox.  Other than softball though, basketball is my first love.  I might be the only guy ever to buy NBA league pass.

Do you have any superstitions and if so, what are they?
if i don't get a hit, my dip has to go.

What is the best improvement upper level softball could make?
affordability.  I don't know how and it seems there are a lot of people who agree on this.  My flight to the smoky alone was $800. Cost is a huge factor

What is your favorite non-World tournament and why?
i've been to Le Pif 3 times and won it twice.  Pretty amazing atmosphere.  Smoky would be a close second.  Unlimited homers makes the game fun.

What is the best softball field/complex you have played at and why?
I like fortune road.  perfect fields and the right size I believe for that level of play.

Where is the best place to eat on the road after a game?
Wherever the car stops… i'm not picky

What is the funniest thing you have ever seen on a softball field?
i saw a ball go off matt tindells forehead and go over for a homer.  That was pretty funny
