14 of the top 20 teams in the SoftballCenter computer Rankings and 11 of the top 20 teams in the Nationwide Conference USSSA point standings will be in attendance at this weekend’s "Windy City" Major!  There will be 29 teams overall and 17 of them are from the Conference!  Which means the winner will score (150 + (17 x 4)) = 218 points!

If there has ever been an interesting regular season tournament on 300 foot fields it has to be this one.  #1 Dan Smith is changing pitchers to Losson White and Mike Nino and released L.C. Watson after having decent success this year.  L.C. was then picked up by #5 Resmondo.  And Dan Smith also picked up veteran infielder Dennis Rulli to bolster the lineup.  Resmondo meanwhile only has 3 losses in Conference play all year but if you include the USA Softball Corky's tournament they are only 11-5 in their last 16 games.  And after losing just 1 game and no tournaments in April, they have not won a tournament in two tries in May.  #4 Smash It Sports on the other hand in 2017 went 69-7 overall, 31-7 vs Major teams, and won 10 of the most important tournaments, but started 2018 without a win against a major team or a tournament win until they won the rain shortened Texas Legends Major two weeks ago.  Then we have Pure Sports who picked up Branch/Payne but lost Washington/Williams and just "double dipped" Precision in Atlanta after Precision had double dipped Resmondo in Indiana!  It has been a wild season and makes for an interesting Chicago Major.

Then there is the bracket which is seeded by Conference points and the 3 major teams (#1 Dan Smith, #4 Smash It, and #5 Resmondo) are all on the same side of the bracket, opening up an opportunity for one of the 'AA' teams – Pure Sports, Racks, or a TDB on the top side of the bracket to be in the winners bracket finals.  Note: Resmondo has only lost 1 game and has won all 3 tournaments that they have played on turf infields, and the main 4 fields at McCaslin Park in Carol Stream, Illinois have artificial turf infields.  …

 Shea Nations picks for Chicago!

The Windy City Invitational Major in Chicago will have all three major teams and the top 3 AA teams that should be a Major Teams.  The team list includes a total of 29 teams and 17 Nationwide Conference USSSA teams in attendance with 3 major, 5 AA, 8 A, 1 B and 18 local teams.  Smash It/Thunder/Backman/TDB/Miken is the favorite after it's dominating performance at the Euless Major.  The other teams looking to get the win: the #1 overall seed Dan Smith/Menosse/Steven Smith; Resmondo/RDD/H.Auto/All In/Sprizzi/; Precision/3rd Street/Bull Dawg; TDB/FAI/Klutch/Miken; and Pure Sports/Monsta after it's "double dip" of Precision at the Atlanta Major.

"Windy City" Predictions:  The lower part of the bracket will be very interesting with all 3 major teams.  In the "Elite 8" we could see Resmondo versus Smash It in one match up.  The lucky winner of that match up gets the #1 overall seed Dan Smith in the "Final Four".  In the other "Final Four" match up it should be 2 of the top AA teams: TDB versus Pure Sports.

Shea's Final Picks for the "Windy City" Major:
1. Smash It/Thunder/Backman/TDB/Miken
2. Resmondo/RDD/H.Auto/All In/Sprizzi/
3. TDB/FAI/Klutch/Miken
4. Dan Smith/Menosse/Steven Smith
5. Pure Sports/Monsta
   Precision/3rd Street/Bull Dawg

Oldscout pollers are taking Resmondo by 48% over Smash It 23%

  1. Peter Johnson says:

How is Resmondo #5? Thought they were #1.

    • DW says:

Conference tournaments are seeded off of conference points.

You are thinking of the computer rankings which have nothing to do with seeding.
