OKLAHOMA CITY — USA Softball announced today the 14-athlete roster for the 2018 USA Softball Women’s Slow Pitch National Team (WSPNT), which will compete against the Canada’s Women’s Slow Pitch National Team at Border Battle this July 27-29 in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada. These 14 athletes were evaluated and selected based off their performance at the 2017 USA Softball Women’s Open Slow Pitch National Championship in Oklahoma City, Okla.

“The coaching staff is very excited about this team,” said WSPNT Head Coach Don Cooper. “We’re so excited about the addition of Jordan (Brown) and Kennedy (Houser), as the opportunity to share the dugout with members of the All-Armed Forces team is amazing. We didn’t achieve our goals last year, and this year it will be tougher playing in Canada, but I truly believe we will be ready."

Slated to be held at Peter Hallman Ballyard, Border Battle will offer softball fans an opportunity to see high-level, international slow pitch competition.  The roster includes athletes from 13 different states who have earned numerous USA Softball National Championships and individual tournament accolades. Returning this year are seven veterans in Leigh Campbell (Venice, Calif.), Kami Marrott (Las Vegas, Nev.), Megan Miller (Wichita, Kan.), Tara Salcedo (Bellflower, Calif.), Kristen Shifflett (Charlottesville, Va.), Dara Toman (Columbus, Ohio) and 2017 USA Softball Female Slow Pitch Athlete of the Year, Christan Dowling (Rochester, N.Y.). A mainstay in the U.S. lineup, Dowling led the Red, White and Blue with two home runs, five walks and a 2.000 slugging percentage with five RBI and three runs scored at the Women’s Border Battle.

The roster announcement for the USA Softball MSPNT and Futures Slow Pitch National Team was announced yesterday, while the complete schedule for Border Battle will be announced at a later date.
