23 of the top 30 teams in the Nationwide Conference USSSA points standings will be in Columbus, Ohio for this weekends Major event.  The tournament will begin on Friday night at 5 PM eastern time and I hope to livestream every game on USSSALive.com.  The chat room will also be up here at SoftballCenter.com.  A few teams are still fighting to stay in the top 16 as you can see at this points scenarios at this link.  TDB/TMSports is currently in the 17th position (top 16 lock into the USSSA Major World Series).  A tie for 5th would put TDB/TMSports into the 16th position and bump out Steel Athletics who is not coming to Columbus.  Seminoles and Premier would need a 4th place finish or better to have a shot, TG Brand would need a 2nd place or better finish, and JBL/Tailgaters would have to win the tournament to qualify for the Major.  Remember even after the top 16 are locked into the Major after Columbus, the highest finishing non qualified team at the Conference Championships over Labor Day weekend will also qualify as the #17 seed, and the #18 seed will be offered to the champion of the USSSA Military Worlds Varsity A division.  Good luck to all teams.

Also on the line is the batting title.  Bradley Carlsen the leadoff hitter for Bay Area Legends is currently at .838 onbase percentage 150 for 179.  Filip Washington of OA Apparel is at .835 152 for 182.  And Mike Brambilla of Classic Glass .812 is not playing and Kyle Pearson of Resmondo is at .799.  Ryan Harvey of Smash It/Scene should wrap up the home run and RBI title as he has a big lead with 112 home runs and 264 RBI.

Carlsen, Washington, and below is Harvey

NOTE:  At this tournament I will have a group of ball shaggers collecting foul balls and home run balls trying to see if we can save a tournament like this on costs.  Please do not take any game balls during the tournament and put them in your bag, even the ones that maybe have a tear in them etc and are unusable.  Game balls are property of USSSA and the tournament director.  Thank you for your understanding.

Also NOTE the roster deadline for Conference teams to add players is Friday, August 4th

Here is the team breakdown:
 – 26 Total Teams
 – 23 Are Nationwide Conference USSSA Teams which means 270 points to the winner!
 – 6 Major teams
 – 8 'AA' teams
 – 5 'A' teams
 – 6 'B' teams

The 4 main fields at the Lou Berliner Park are baseball fields #14-17 and are of varying fence distances.  These fields although they are baseball fields they play more like the Smoky main field at Sandy Springs Park in that they are high school sized baseball fields and not MLB sized baseball fields.

Of course the SoftballCenter.com chat room will also be up and running all weekend.

USSSALive.com will livestream 4 fields F14, F15, F16, F17 all weekend starting at 5 PM eastern time on Friday.

Weekly Picks

DW's Picks:  The Smash It/Scene core of players formerly with Resmondo has never won the Columbus Major but with the year they are having (only 5 losses) it would be hard to bet actual money against them.  They have won on a stadium at the HOF, they have dominated the 300 foot fields winning 6 out of 7, and they won the high scoring Smoky tournament.  SIS/Thunder, Dan Smith, and Resmondo have all given them a good game here and there but Smash It/Scene seems healthy and ready to roll again this weekend.  I'll say Smash It/Scene wins.  SIS/Thunder 2nd.  Worth Astros 3rd.  Racks who is in a nice spot in the lineup has a chance to do some damage, but I'll take Newbreed 4th.  But this tournament is on the bigger baseball fields so I could be way off and this is why I don't do the picks anymore.  🙂   DW

Shea Nations Picks:  This weekend the Columbus major has 23 Nationwide Conference USSSA teams in attendance and the last chance to qualify for the Major World Series with all 6 major, 8 AA, 5 A, 6 B and 3 local teams.  The Conference USSSA point leader and #1 overall seed Smash It/Miken/Worth is the favorite to win. The other teams looking to upset the favorite are: Resmondo/O.A. Apparel/H.Auto/Special; Dan Smith/Menosse; Newbreed/GTS/Demarini or Rack's/Sonny's/Athlon.
Columbus Predictions:  The final 4 undefeated should be the same as all year: Newbreed versus Resmondo and Smash It versus Thunder.   The same result as all year Smash It beating Thunder and Resmondo in the undefeated game.  In the loser's bracket will determine seeding for the Major World Series and the upper hand will go to makes it to the 5th place games of Newbreed versus Xtreme and Racks versus Thunder.  If all holds true like predicted then Newbreed and Thunder would play for 4th place.
Any upsets or early eliminations this weekend could result in losing a seed in the Major so let's all get prepared for many upsets this weekend.  I predict Titan Truckin to be the highest finishing local team and SheaNation's sleeper pick of the week.

Shea Nations Final Picks for the Columbus Major:
1. Smash It/Miken/Worth
2. Resmondo/O.A. Apparel/H.Auto/Special
3. SIS/Thunder/Miken/Worth
4. Newbreed/GTS/Demarini
5. Xtreme/Miken/ASP/Athlon
    Racks/Sonny's/Athlon
