2016 “Windy City” Chicago Major tournament preview!
"Windy City" Major
Nationwide Conference USSSA!
June 5-7
Tournament Preview
(All game times are Central Time)
12 of the top 20 teams in the nation will be in attendance at this weekend’s "Windy City" Major! There will be 37 teams overall and 19 of them are from the Nationwide Conference USSSA! Which means the winner will score (150 + (19 x 4)) = 226 points! The favorites #1 seeded Backman/Shoppe/Louisville Slugger and #2 seeded Resmondo Specialty Tank Worth, with #3 seeded Smash It Sports/ASP/HAuto/Mr Wiggles/Easton as the defending champions of this event. Local Illinois AA team Precision who won in Atlanta last week and hot hitting 3rd Street Financial from Ohio will be trying to pull off the big upsets. The tournament does feature the top 3 Major teams and 9 very good AA teams. The tournament also has the 4 main fields which are artificial turf infields and 300 foot fences so the rain forecast on Saturday shouldn't have a big affect on the tourny.
This aerial view of the main complex was taken by a drone this past winter. The grass should be green by now. 🙂
The bracket was seeded on this years conference points.

Predictions: Another 300 foot tournament so the favorite has to be Resmondo who also has the best record against Major teams this year. Backman with their new manager Dal Beggs will try to get on track on the smaller fields this weekend and should be healthier after finally getting a week off. Backman has won all 3 tournaments played on baseball fields but has struggled some on the smaller fields but are always a threat. Smash It Sports has always seemed to play pretty well in Chicago and are a threat. Newbreed, Vivid, and other AA teams are looking for a Sunday finish but Precision is probably the favorite to finish top 4 out of the AA and A teams this weekend.
My (DW's) picks are: Wow, the top 1/4th of the bracket is wide open with either 3rd Street or BHR most likely making the final 8 of the winners bracket against the Smash It Sports vs Line Drive Sportz winner. In the second quarter of the bracket Resmondo and Precision should square off at noon on Saturday to go to the final 4. In the 3rd quarter of the bracket it is like a 'AA' mini World with the Newbreed vs Vivid winner playing the TM Sports vs TG/Red's Astros winner provided there are no upsets. And in the bottom 4th of the bracket Backman should take on the battle of Minnesota winner – Xtreme vs Eurotech.
So my final 4 are 1) Resmondo 2) Newbreed 3) Precision 4) Backman Backman has the easiest road to the final 4 which they earned by being the #1 seed but a fresh Newbreed team and Resmondo may be the top teams on 300 foot fields.
We need Mike Beardsley back to do the picks, they aren't easy!
