Local news article about the military world tournament
The USSSA Military Worlds had 6 different tournaments played by 123 different teams over a 4-day period in brutal heat and the worst humidity of the softball season. But the city of Augusta rolled out the red carpet and the facility, field crews, and umpires did a great job and allowed military teams from all over the country and even one team from Germany to compete for the various titles. The showcase of the Military Worlds is the Military 'A' division which had 17 teams, used a 12 home run limit, and was played on the two 320 foot fields. With the heat and humidity, the ball was not flying very well and most scores were on the low side. The 'A' division started on Friday at noon with one "play in" game as Semper a Conference 'A' team beat Shut D from Hawaii 29-9. That set up Semper in the round of 16 against #1 seeded Militia/4TheFallen from Jacksonville, Florida in what would be a pivotal matchup early in the event. Semper had a bad first inning and Militia jumped out to a 6-0 lead in front of a decent sized crowd. The game even featured some heckling from some of the other military teams. Semper would tie the game at 10-10 in the bottom of the 6th on a Tre Campbell backside line drive homer but Militia scored 4 in the top of the 7th on another JB Jennings homer and Militia held on to win 14-10. With Semper in the loser's bracket the tournament was wide open. Not Forgotten from Maryland won two straight including a 9-7 victory over Brotherhood to get to the final 4. SOCO from Colorado beat a good American Legion team and Barksdale both from Florida to get to the final 4. Militia beat 4TF/JTF/CA Gear 22-11 to advance and upstart JBSA-Lackland Warhawks who won the Varsity 'B' division in 2015 won 3 straight games to make it to the Saturday night winners bracket finals against Militia. Militia made it to the winners final although they trailed SOCO 19-18 in the semifinals after Clayton Shaw gave SOCO a lead with a two out hit. Then Militia with two outs in the top of the 7th scored 6 runs and held off SOCO in the bottom of the inning to escape with a 24-20 victory. In the winners final it was all Militia as the ball started to fly and their offense was just too much for Lackland in a 26-5 run rule win in 4 innings.
In the loser's bracket it was a 3 game guarantee setup where 4TheFallen/JTF Hawaii/CA Gear from Washington who was 0-2 on Friday won 4 straight games on Saturday to make it to the final 4 teams on Sunday. We also witnessed the 4TheFallen 'B' team win 3 straight games to meet their fellow 4TheFallen team on Sunday morning in the loser's semifinal. That was a battle of two tired teams as the 'A' team beat the 'B' squad 26-19 and advanced to play Lackland in the loser's final. 4TheFallen got off to a 14-6 lead and Lackland answered in the bottom of the 4th to close the gap to 14-13. Then Lacklands Randall Gifford homered to close the 4TheFallen lead to 20-19. But 4TheFallens Dax Mamuyac hit his 2nd homer to make it 24-19 and middle infielder Chad Augustin hit a 2 run homer to put it out of reach 26-19.
In the championship most assumed Militia would walk through a very tired and banged up 4TheFallen team but it was just 3-3 after 2 complete innings. Then Fallens Chad Agustin hit a grand slam to give the underdogs a 7-3 lead and left fielder David Perez robbed a homer to start the top of the 4th. After a 2 run homer by Militias Mike Tekac 4TheFallen CF John Allen robbed yet another homer to keep the score at 7-5. In the 6th inning Militias field leader and shortstop Brad Sheffield hit a big 3 run homer in a 5 run inning to make it a 13-13 tie. But Agustin struck again with a 3 run homer to run his rbi total to 7 and they got a big defensive play by Dann Rogers at 3rd on a line drive to put Militia away 16-13 and force the "if" game!
In the final game offensive MVP Chad Loudon led the game off with a 3 run homer in the top of the first for 4TheFallen. But Militia would answer with home runs by Scott Martin, Corey Stoles, and Mike Beery and by the bottom of the 2nd inning Militia held a 14-4 lead. 4TheFallen would fight one last time in the top of the 3rd with a 7 run inning but Soles hit a bases loaded double in the bottom of the 3rd for Militia and they took a 19-11 lead and walked away with a 26-13 win, the coveted Military 'A' championship, and a berth into the USSSA Major World Series!

John Allen the leadoff hitter and center fielder for 4TheFallen deserves some recognition after he made play after play on the fence and was onbase 5-5 with 3 HR in one of the Sunday games.
His blend of speed, power, and defense remind one of Jon Gastineau from Newbreed.
John is also and All Air Force team member.
Team by team notes brought to you by:
1st Place Militia/4TheFallen
from Florida 5-1 Record
Militia was the class of the field this year and gutted out some wins in games where they didn't necessarily play great. But they did have the best offensive team and had some clutch offensive performances with two outs especially in that SOCO game to get the job done. Militia will be a great representative at the Major World Series. Sheffield is a beast, Beery on the mound is a workhorse, and the team has the look and feel of a true military unit.
Militia/4TheFallen Sunday lineup:
SS Brad Sheffield
1B Scott Martin
RF Corey Soles
MI Jerblonski Jennings
LF Daniel Whittman
EH Jose Cosme
C Scott Stinson
3B Mike Tekac
P Mike Beery
2B Lee Trawick
CF Daniel Dingman
Jerblonski Jennings hit 3 big homers against Semper
Tekac, Sheffield, and Jennings left side
Pitcher Mike Beery pitched the whole tournament and had the best helmet
2nd Place 4TheFallen/JTF Hawaii/CA Gear
from Washington 7-3 Record
4TheFallen played 10 games and after losing their first two games to finish 2nd AND force an "if" game is a very successful weekend which showed great heart. John Allen, JD Mathews, and Brian Gardner are stars on the rise. The veterans Flythe, Mamuyac, and Loudon are guys with extensive Conference experience.
4TheFallen/JTF/CAGear Sunday lineup:
CF John Allen
SS JD Mathews
RF Brian Gardner
LF Jermain Flythe
P Dax Mamuyac
C/P Chad Loudon
MI Chad Agustin
2B Dann Rogers
1B Marshal Woods
3B David Perez
EH Larry White
I think this is Larry White making a great diving catch?
Mathews at shortstop made some unbelievable diving plays and Augustin hit some big heat of the day HR's
Jamie Fregozo the architect of the 4 The Fallen softball program and Marshall Woods All Army performer.
3rd Place JBSA-Lackland Warhawks
from Texas 3-2 Record
Lackland moved up to 'A' and almost shocked the softball world. Athleticism in the right places, some key home run hitters, and a few veterans make this another fun team to watch, reminded me of the American Legion team.
JBSA Lackland Warhawks Sunday lineup:
MI Mario Coronado
CF Robbie Fow
RF Jacob Lenk
SS John Grice
P Randall Gifford
C Edwin Jorge
P Kenneth Cain
1B Josh Thomas
2B Peter Barela
3B Christian Torres
LF Nick Ludwig
Torres, Grice, and Coronado left side
Mario Corranado was the steady leadoff hitter
4th Place 4TF/JTF/CAGear/Legends Sports
from Washington 4-2 Record
This 4TheFallen team probably wasn't expected to make the final 4 but they did anyway. More of a "no name" group with a good winning spirit.

SOCO Sport Military Softball from Colorado tied for 5th at 2-2. Won their first two games and was leading Militia in the semifinals by 1 in the top of the 7th before Militia scored 5 runs to beat them 24-20. A heartbreaking loss for SOCO who had Clayton Shaw from Semper as their team leader. What could have been if they had gotten that last out…
Not Forgotten Softball from Maryland tied for 5th at 2-2. They had a big 9-7 late game win over Brotherhood but then dropped two straight on low offensive output.
Not Forgotten holds off Brotherhood 9-7
American Legion from Florida finished 3-2 and tied for 7th. In the loser's bracket they beat 4TheFallen in a late Friday game 32-28 hitting something like 5 homers in a row in one inning after the sun went down. This team had good athleticism, some power, some defense, a little bit of everything but not quite enough. Very entertaining to watch play though and they didn't ever give up and played a lot of close games.
Shut D United from Hawaii finished 3-2 and tied for 7th. They beat Commando Softball on a walk off homer by Kalani Mauga (pictured below). A fun team with a big left handed power hitter Keahi Kapana
Adiktiv Nation FMD from New Mexico
