GPO celebrates the final out of the championship game against Steel
GPO Softball out of Georgia went 7-0 to win the 3 day long double elimination USSSA 'B' World tournament which was played on the softball fields at Fortune Road, Osceola Park, and the finals were at the ESPN Wide World of Sports with a temporary fence set at 310 feet. There were 72 teams in the tournament because the 'C' teams were permitted to play the 'B' after their world tournament finished up on Friday morning. GPO knocked off Polekatz out of Illinois by 2 on Friday, Olmito Heat by 3 and Seminoles by 10 on Saturday morning, Universal Screen by 5 and SouthShore by 1 Saturday afternoon, and then knocked off Steel 21-19 in the winner's final. On Sunday in the final 4 Premier out of Ohio who had run ruled TG Brand the night before held on to win over MyAutoJack from Arizona 23-19 with some great defense by their pitcher and shortstop. MAJ thus finished 4th and featured Mike Nino at pitcher, Tim Martinez from the Long Haul tour, Josh Moore, and Caezar Camarillo. Steel then hammered Premier with a big first inning in the loser's final and Premier finished 3rd. Premier featured pitcher Brian Lakes and hitter Brock Morrison. And then GPO who had to be beaten twice jumped all over Steel in the early innings and pushed some run rules until finally winning in the top of the 7th 23-11. Steel of course was one of the top Conference 'B' teams and GPO had a number of players with Conference experience like right fielder Jason Gillfillan, 2B Matt McCraw, Larkin Grant and Carlton Griffin.

There was a lot of pre tournament discussion around Conference 'B' teams being better than non-Conference 'B' teams. Well Conference 'B' teams went 18-20 in this 'B' world tournament. Non-Conference 'B' teams went 56-28 in the 'B' World and won the tournament.
There were 10 Conference 'B' teams and 2 finished in the top 16. (20%)
There were 15 Non Conference 'B' teams and 8 finished in the top 16. (53%)
There were 47 Non Conference 'C' teams and 6 finished in the top 16. (13%)
