2016 Oldscout Poll Results!

We take a lot of polls over on TheOldScout.com message board and here on SoftballCenter.com but we don't always go back and look at the results.

So lets take a look at the 2016 Poll Results so far this year:

  • Poll: 2017 Conference Seeding

A bold and good move was made at the USSSA Convention Conference meeting this past year to start seeding all Conference tournaments on 2016 points after the Hall of Fame Classic.

This was voted on unanimously. What wasn't foreseen was Resmondo pulling out of the HOF dual to go to a funeral which makes them the #18 seed for Columbus.

Everyone in the conference understands this and accepts the seeding for Columbus which is correct and was done the only way it could be which is by the rules.

Looking forward to 2017 what seeding should be used?

Option 1: Total points after the HOF. Just total points scored after the HOF which was 4 tournaments. Most teams played 2 or 3 tournaments but of course voting for Option 1 you could see a team play all 4 tournaments if its total points.
Pros: its total points PERIOD. Teams will play more tournies early in the season.
Cons: some teams will play all the tournies to get a false seed and could increase costs.

Option 2: Best 2 points tournaments used to seed at Columbus. Best 3 to seed after Columbus. Best 4 to seed after Chattanooga. Best 6 after Chicago.
Pros: Teams might just play 2 tournies early.
Cons: Not a lot of tournaments to seed on.

Option 3: Best 3 points tournaments used to seed at Columbus. Best 4 to seed after Columbus. Best 5 to seed after Chattanooga. Best 6 after Chicago.
Pros: Fair amount of tournaments and no advantage for playing all of them.
Cons: I can't think of any.

Option 4: Seed by class then points within class
Pros: The major teams don't trash the losers bracket as often.
Cons: Major vs Major matchups unlikely til end of tournament.

Option 5: Seed by class but randomly within each class
Pros: Major teams won't trash the losers bracket as often.
Cons: A and AA teams with a hot start would still be seeded behind major teams.
