The 2014 Nationwide Conference USSSA season continues in Houston, Texas this weekend at the 9th Annual "Space City" Classic!  The traditional huge field of 64 teams will participate with teams from 12 different states.  Also 12 of the teams are from Conference USSSA.  The games are played at the Big League Dreams park where the fields are softball sized replicas of major league stadiums and the infields are all artificial turf.  There are 32 'C' and above teams in this tournament.

Team Breakdown

 1 Major
 2 'A'
 6 'B'
23 'C'
24 'D'
 8 'E'

Teams will begin play on Friday, April 10th at 6 PM central time and will play late into the night both Friday and Saturday to get the 127 games completed.  Rain is in the forecast.

The favorites that will try to "survive and advance" to compete in Sunday's final 4 are:
Albicocco/The Scene/Easton (NY) (M)
CA Sports/Buzini/Lockdown/Powerhouse (MS) (A)
TG Brand (MI) (A)
Fence Brokers Inc/Buzini/Worth (AR) (B)

The picks this week were made by an anonymous contributor.  Lets see what he came up with!

The 64 team bracket is highlighted by 12 conference teams including Major team Albicocco/The Scene/Easton, and A teams TG Brand and CASports/Buzini/Lockdown/Powerhouse.  Albicocco enters the tournament as the clear favorite, and is looking to avenge their 2014 championship loss to Line Drive.  Will Albicocco power through the 64 team field on its way to their first tournament championship of 2015, or will there be another early season surprise on the horizon?

The top half of the bracket features a couple of fun Friday night games between some of the local teams, but the real action should get going Saturday.  The 3:30 PM Yankee field game between CASports/Buzini and Fence Brokers/Buzini/Worth could be one of the best games.  I see Fence Brokers getting through in the upset to face TG Brand in the top half.

The bottom of the bracket is just loaded with talent, and features my favorite non-conference match-up of the week.  TI Sports (Texas South) takes on Strokers Softball out of Louisiana.  I like TI to get through, but if you have some time this may be a great game to watch.  If things go according to seeding – Nightmare should match up with Above All Landscaping for the right to face Albicocco to close out the top half.

I like FBI to get through and TG Brand to face Albicocco.  FBI has the power to keep up with Albicocco for a few innings, but I see Albicocco getting through and remaining undefeated going to the championship.  The TG Brand crew runs out of falls to CASports/Buzini to finish 4th.  I like FBI to get back to the finals after a tightly fought 7 inning battle with CASports/Buzini, but ultimately they will fall in the championship to Albicocco/The Scene/Easton.

Final Order of Finish predicted by our anonymous contributor:
1) Albicocco
2) Fence Brokers
3) CASports/Buzini
4) TG Brand

Upset Team to watch this week:  Chill Sports.  They are off to a slow start in 2015, but did make a run to the final 8 undefeated in 2014.  Watch out big boys!!!

  1. Sorry. I believe I was the anonymous contributor. Forgot to put my screen name in there. Picks, for the record, were purely based on rosters at this point.

  2. Local Fan says:

Id watch out for Goons, Old School, Steels, & Club Chill for some close upsets against the bigger teams!!!! Old School top 10 finish last 2 yrs. 8Th & 5th and Club Chill always comes out hard. Bad thing is they meet at 12:30am sat morning. Winner has FB & Buzinni to get thru also… Gonna be some great games if the weather holds up….
