The 2013 Conference USSSA season kicks off this weekend in Las Vegas, Nevada with the 3rd Annual Louisville Slugger "Sin City Classic"! The tournament features the 2012 Major World Series champions Laservision/Desert Falls/Boombah/Easton sponsored out of New York. Also featured are class 'A' teams Nordkap/Suncoast Reebok based out of Florida, Line Drive Sportz/Miken based out of Michigan, and 4 The Fallen/Miken based out of Arizona. These teams will try to slug their way through a field of B-E teams which include 5 other teams from the Conference USSSA league.
Teams will begin play on Friday, April 5th and the live internet feed of the Angel Stadium replica field will begin at 12:45 pacific time on Saturday, April 6th. Live coverage of the main field will continue through the championship game which is set for Sunday at 10:30 AM. There are 23 teams in the event and the games will be played at the Big League Dreams park at 3151 East Washington street. The fields feature artificial turf infields and 6 softball fields each of which is modeled after the look and feel of a major league baseball stadium.
My picks for the tournament. I believe Nordkap/Suncoast Reebok will defeat Laservision/Desert Falls in the final with Line Drive Sportz third, Famous/Premier/Easton 4th, and 4 The Fallen and OC Swats tied for 5th.
Look for Classic Glass to be the lower class "pick to click" and West Coast Miken to be the highest finishing non-conference team.
The weather looks to be good. It is traditionally windy.

Weekend Weather
"Wall Ball" or no "Wall Ball". This year hitters will only have to hit it over the regular fence for a home run. Last year the BLD parks used a home run rule where you had to clear the entire wall including over the fake fans and out of the entire park for a homer. On some parts of the fields like the picture in the top right, low flying line drives and wind blown flyballs result in cheap and sometimes unwanted home runs. The fact is the BLD fields are small and both ways of playing at these fields is silly. But you have to choose one, so we'll see how it goes.

Len Anderson a wounded service member will be travelling with the 4 The Fallen team, and the team will perform a flag ceremony in Las Vegas to honor Army SGT Christopher Owens and Army SGT Leo Louis Dunson.
Proceeds from the sale of the Miken bats and 4 The Fallen equipment and clothing go to help the 4 The Fallen organization.
