The 2013 Nationwide Conference USSSA Championships take place this coming weekend, August 30-September 1st in Kissimme, Florida at the USSSA headquarters.  This years tournament is again using a bracket where seeds 9-16 have 2 play in games, and seeds 5-8 have one play in game.  The 8 loser's from the first two rounds drop to a double elimination "Open" bracket of their own, while the top 8 teams play for the Conference Championship.  All 16 teams are playing for points which count as if this was a 7th Nationwide Conference tournament and a good weekend or a bad weekend could affect the seedings for the Major World Series.

In addition to the Major and "Open" brackets USSSA has invited the 16 teams ranked #17 to #32 in Nationwide Conference points to a tournament of their own over at the Fortune Road Park.  7 teams have accepted the challenge and the winner of the tournament becomes the #17 seed at the USSSA World Series.  In other words they earn a World Series berth.  This tournament is now being called the "Conference World Series Qualifying tournament".

The bracket is loaded for the Major division.  Remember last year it was TYJA/Suncoast Reebok defeating R&M Metals in the championship game as the 4 Major teams were all upset early and often.  And then last year in the 8 team "open" bracket where the losing teams "fell" to it was two 'B' teams Line Drive Sportz and Red's Astros fighting it out while all of the 'A' teams were upset.  It is always difficult to tell which teams will take the Nationwide Conference Championships seriously and which will not.  It is also difficult to pick against Resmondo considering the season they have had and the OldScout poll shows Resmondo as a 45% chance to win.  Last year an 'A' team won it for the first time in history and Major teams had a combined record of 2-9.  85% of the games on the stadium field were upsets a year ago!

This year In the "final 8" it looks to be any 4 of the top 5 'A' teams trying to upset the big 4 – Resmondo, Laservision, Shoppe, and Nordkap.  I will pick Red's Astros to beat Albicocco in the best 2nd round matchup.  I will also take Nordkap over Resmondo in the semis and Laservision over GTL who will beat Shoppe. 

My final picks:

 1) Nordkap/Suncoast Reebok – the momentum continues for the 'A' World Champs.

 2) GTL Doerflinger R&M/Easton – Team has nothing to lose.

 3) Resmondo-Specialty Tank/Worth – Obvious favorite to win but gains nothing by doing so.

 4) Laservision/Desert Falls/Boombah/Easton – Saving it for the show.  Lots of beat up players here.

In the "Open" lets go with Red's Astros over Line Drive Sportz.

In the World Series qualifying tournament lets go with Adiktiv over 3rd Street Financial.

Looks like B&B Sears picked up a couple of the ex-Team 454 players?
