2012 bounty poll/commentary results

Every year our readers participate in a number of polls over on TheOldScout message board, but how many of us go back and check to see the results? In a series of articles to be posted over the next couple of weeks, I will look back at the 2012 poll results for a variety of topics, and I will of course give my 2 cents worth of commentary about each poll. 🙂

A look back at the bounty poll from 2012

Do upper level softball teams place bounties on people?

Yes   61% 75
No    39% 48

123 votes total

DW's Take:

61% say that teams place bounties.  I am surprised.  I've seen a lot of crazy things on the upper level circuit but I've never heard anyone talk about a bounty.  Of course if NFL teams could keep it hidden for a period of time, I am sure softball teams can keep it hidden from me.  One thing is for sure, the middle is "open" in the Conference every inning of every game from Friday night at 6 PM to Sunday after the last out.  This isn't your mother's church league, and open is the way it should be.

While the Conference has had its share of broken forearms and fingers, most of the head shots (except Dirty's) were deflected by helmets and most injuries have occurred when a pitcher moves to "cover" the hole like the picture above.

61% wow.  Where there is smoke there is fire.  If someone wants to confirm the bounties with an "off the record" story, I would love to hear one to verify this.
