2011 R&M Metals/Troupe/TCP/Easton Conference Team

R&M Metals/Troupe/TCP/Easton

Tied 5th Place R&M Metals/Troupe/TCP/Easton  GTGG

Conf 'A' from Waterloo, IA   3-2 Record

R&M Metals continued their winning ways beating Wood Law, Doerflinger, and Shoppe before dropping a 18-10 decision to GTL.  Look for R&M to retool and continue on up the 'A' division ladder.   In R&M's game against Doerflinger, Keith Anderson was brought in cold off the bench and hit a dramatic 3 run homer to tie the game in the bottom of the 7th inning and two batters later, lead off man Brian Zirkle hit a walkoff homer into the right field corner to win it.    Catcher Nate Staats had 17 RBI for the tournament and Chris Greinert had 5 homer's and 14 RBI.

Conf 'A' from Waterloo, Iowa   5-2 Record

R&M Metals/Troupe/TCP/Easton had their second big runner up finish in a row after a tough season.   They survived an opening round Saturday morning game against Linedrive when Nick Robertson threw out a runner at home plate who was trying to tie the game in the bottom of the 7th on a sacrifice fly.   Then they survived a 13-12 win over Sinister in the semi-finals by drawing a two out bases loaded walk in the bottom of the 7th.   They literally made it to the winner's final late on Saturday night by "the skin of their teeth".

Unfortunately they didn't compete with Team 454 until Sunday, where they forced the "IF" game of the championship after jumping out to a big 11-1 lead.   10 run leads are big in the Florida heat and humidity where the ball does not fly well.   Then in the championship game they pulled within 1 run but couldn't score in the 7th.

R&M should hold their heads high.   They nearly beat Resmondo two weeks ago in Michigan in the Championship game and they had a shot at Team 454 at the 'A' Worlds.   That is all you can ask.

Nick "Noodle" Robertson was tabbed a well deserved Offensive MVP.   He also made some tournament saving defensive plays and nearly batted for the cycle to beat Wood Law and advance to the Championship game.

Conf 'A' from Waterloo, IA   5-2 Record

R&M Metals/Troupe/TCP/Easton finally got on a roll for once as they knocked off more quality opponents in a row in this tournament than they had beaten all year in Conference play.  From the near perfect offensive tournament of second baseman Matt Albert to the timely game winning home run by left fielder Nick Robertson to beat Team 454 in the wee hours of the morning on Sunday to go to the championship game, R&M put it all together for the first time this season.  And they did it just in time to build momentum for the 'A' Worlds.

R&M picked up Sam Lopez who was being held by EWS on a roster freeze until this past weekend.  Lopez was flashing the leather at middle infield and showed some great athletic ability playing a position he has not played recently.  Lopez was the first baseman and 3rd baseman on the last two 'A' World Champion GTL teams.  When this team has all of their players and are healthy, they are collectively capable of stringing 3 'A' wins together in a row.  Look for R&M to add a final piece to the puzzle for the stretch run.
