Pipac rolls through a deeply talented field of top Conference 'A' and 'B' teams
A "Conference Building" tourny for USSSA and upper level ball as 'B' Teams dominated stop #7 in Columbus, Indiana this past weekend. Pipac/TCP/Easton out of Iowa is your cinderella winner as they defeat another great run by EWS/Shirts and Logos 32-22 in the winner's championship on Saturday night and 26-11 in the finals Sunday afternoon. This was Pipac's weekend as the perennial ASA standout team finally broke through in a big USSSA tournament. A true team effort led by a stacked top of the order performance in leadoff hitter CF Brian Zirkle, P Lossen White, 3B Chad Johnson, and C Ron Fields. This team got it done on both sides of the ball outscoring their 6 opponents 157-93 and knocking off both 2009 'A' World finalists Jean Shoppe (27-19) and GTL (21-6) in back to back games. More on Pipac later in the report.
Pipac used a real team effort to blow through the competition
EWS/Shirts and Logos finishes second as they back up their HOF Classic performance with upsets over Sinister (23-20) and Team Combat (26-13). For some reason the teams only two poor performances were against Pipac.
One, Two, Three, lets hit solo's and still win!
A gritty Hubs Pub team finishes 3rd and Team Combat/Laservision finishes 4th. The tournament featured 6 of the top 'A' teams in the country and 8 quality 'B' teams. The tournament was well played, although there seemed to be an unusual amount of throwing errors. In the end the Conference 'B' teams come out on top as they post a 7-2 record this weekend over Conference 'A' teams. WOW! This season is shaping up to be one of great balance between the top divisions, making for some great tournaments to come.

Field #5 was seldom used, although it was the best place to watch a game. Lincoln Park was also a nice place to bring family and kids with its basketball and tennis courts, playground, and batting cages. In the clip above, B&C Miken makes short work of Bears Boys.
The weather in Indiana was partly sunny and fairly cool. Some rainstorms were dodged throughout Saturday. Infields were hard but played fairly well.
The ball used for a majority of the winner's bracket was the Dudley ZN Classic M which is a .40 core 325 compression rock which was hard and flew well. Again this week the ball supply was low and many loser's bracket game saw a variety of other types of low core balls being used.
Weather was good and the wind wasn't much of a factor

Team by team notes brought to you by:
1st Place Pipac/TCP/Easton
Conf 'B' from Iowa, 6-0 Indiana Record
Pipac makes an incredible run and sweeps the Indiana tourny. They knock off Shoppe, GTL, EWS, Hubs, and EWS again. This team finally played in Conference like they are capable of and team chemistry, offense, defense, and field management were perfect. Pipac played without Brian Barnett (injured bicep). Their championship run against some great teams always seemed to find them with a lead and none of the games were really nailbiter's.
Pipac wakes up the 'B' divsion with a shocking tournament and we look forward to more of the same in Chicago in a few weeks. Congratulations to the management group and Rob Humphrey, tournament MVP Lossen White, Defensive MVP Charles Dubois, and the entire Pipac team on an historic weekend for the Conference.
Lineup: CF Zirkle, P White, 3B Johnson, C Fields, 1B Shilz, EH Staats, SS Middendorf, Gus, RF Dubois, LF Irvine, 2B Bowling, MI Roen (something like that)
Leadoff hitter Brian Zirkle might be the leading candidate to be put on next year's prospect list
Pipac celebrates a leaping stab of a bad throw for an out by big first baseman Andy Shiltz
Pipac infield is anchored by SS Aaron Middendorf and middle infielder Scott Roen
Pipac's Chad Johnson is hitting some nasty linedrive homer's
Lossen White had the 300 foot rope down pat
2nd Place EWS/SHIRTS and LOGOS GTEWS/SHIRTS and LOGOS
Conf 'B' from Illinois, 5-2 Indiana Record
EWS builds on their 2010 Championship Points as they finish 2nd and validates their two HOF Classic 4th place finishes with another great weekend. EWS used big early leads to knock off Sinister and Team Combat on Saturday night, and shut down Hub's Pub on Sunday morning. They played flawless softball except for their two games against Pipac. In the winner's final Saturday night the defense went home early and they couldn't overcome it in a 32-22 loss. In the Championship they dropped again to Pipac 26-11 in a game where their offense took the game off.
EWS was missing shortstop Mike Umscheid, 4 hitter Dustin Palm, and middle infielder Tim Nielson but the team didn't miss a beat as guys like Shaun Odea and 2B and 16 inch softball star Brad Lunda? (can't remember if that was his name) stepped right in. Veteran Tommy Thompson was offensive MVP but it probably could just as easily have gone to leadoff hitter Travis Clark or right fielder Brandon Riese. This team plays up to the competition and have used the hard lessons they have learned the last two years in Conference tournaments to fight for every game.
Lineup: Clark, Lofton, Geron, Riese, Vitcak, Thompson, Hastings, Wicinski, Josh Baird? (from EAP?), O'Dea
EWS brought their 'A' game again and are led by the pitching of former Showcase pitcher Andy Vitcak
EWS turns two!
EWS makes the most of a ricochet!
Travis Clark, send me a link to where you got those shades, hopefully they aren't out of my price range
It doesn't matter who wears the EWS uniform, they contribute positively
